We have been stopping by Steamboat Bills for several years on our way from San Antonio to see relatives on the Westbank by New Orleans. Whether we order the boiled crawfish - during the season, shrimp, oysters, or whatever, it's ALL excellent, as well as the service and the pricing for such quality, quantity, service, and cleanliness of the establishment. The only problem with these people is that they won't expand and build a restaurant in San Antonio. If they did, it would create traffic jams of people trying to get into the parking lot. We honestly love Steamboat Bills! - Clint

On Saturday 4-21-2013, my oldest two sons came to visit me while I'm working in the local area. I told them I wanted to take them to an Awesome Seafood Restaurant. We arrived around 4:30p that afternoon and the place was starting to fill. I had the Boiled Shrimp, Red Beans & Rice and the wonderful fried
Boudin Balls. My oldest had never tried them nor the Red Beans. He was very happy with the choices, and I'm sure he will want to return again as I will before I leave. Where have you been all my life??? I can't tell you how many times I have been up and down I-10 and never knew of this place until last month. A couple of friends and I were at the casino and looking for something to eat other than the buffet there and was pointed into your direction. Everything from the food, to the staff, to the prices were outstanding. But the piece de resistance had to have been the bourbon pecan pie!!!! I made a special trip back from Houston, TX just for another slice and I was 10 minutes too late...they were sold out, I thought I would die. Four of us traveling from San Diego, CA, to Panama City, FL. stopped by for authentic Cajun and cooking and we found it here!! I had a soft shell crab
po boy and it was the best I have ever eaten. The crab was done to perfection and soooo tasty. My wife had shrimp gumbo and it was another home run. We have a couple of Cajun places out here that we frequent in Carpenteria and Santa Barbara, CA, named Cajun Kitchen. We thought we were getting excellent Cajun food...well, now we know. If you want good Cajun cooking, you need to stop at
Steamboat Bills.
All four of us were directed to the owner and we ALL recommended she put out a cook book. We would all like to be able to know the secrets she uses to turn out such excellent food.
We will be back!! We are planning a trip cross country again in May 2013 and
Steamboat Bill's will be one of our major stops.

The first time I passed by was last weekend and the parking lot was PACKED!!...
Always a great sign ;) . Promised myself that I would stop by on the next run through with my family this weekend...and even previewed the menu in advance as well as the reviews. Was packed again and I understand why now...
Shrimp Pistolette... INCREDIBLE! The flavor of the filling and the flavor of the bread just wonderful, ordered a 2nd round even though we were stuffed.
Boudin was good and the sauce served with it was perfect for the rest of our selections too.
Small platter... the shrimp and catfish were fried and seasoned to perfection! The stuffed crab was good as was the stuffed shrimp.
Fries were basic and great with plenty of tartar sauce when requested and the roll was the same as filled with the
pistolette.... which of course was through the roof! Coleslaw was homemade too and tasted great...
For 2 boudin balls, 2 pistolettes, small platter (*$) and a
kiddy meal chicken tenders with 4 waters was only *$. (+ an extra
*$ for the last pistolette) Staff was
friendly, tables and condiments clean as were the restrooms. We are already
planning our trip back home based on lunch time there.

My family and I have been driving from Humble, Tx. to Steamboat Bills for years. We started at the original
restaurant on LA14 and now we mostly just come to Lake Charles. We came in for lunch on our way to Destin, FL on Aug 17th, 2012 and saw for the first time ever, the cabbage casserole and decided to try it. OMG, it was delicious! We could not stop eating it. Now my husband wants to try a recipe and make it at home until we find it again at Steamboat Bills. Apparently all these years we have missed it because they only serve it
occasionally. I hope that we can manage to make it in on a day when they serve this again. The waitress said they usually run out before end of the day! If you haven't tried it, you should. Looking forward to crawfish in November! C.S.

I just wanted to share how impressed we were with the service and food on Sunday, February 19th.
We brought a large group of 18 people right at the peak dinnertime hour. There were SO many people there with it being Mardi Gras and all.
A petite lady handed out menus outside and lined us up with our parties. There were five or six other large parties waiting to be seated as well.
We had ordered and were seated together within 20 minutes. It was such an awesome atmosphere of controlled chaos!
Thanks for making our family time, which is always short and so precious, so wonderfully special!

I was passing thru Lake Charles, Louisiana (November 01, 2011 around noon) going back up north to Gillet, Wisconsin and I must admit I had the most amazing food I've ever tasted !!! The outside of the place didn't look like it's in top shape but once your inside you feel like your at home from the manager to the employees they are the best. They were very sociable and helpful,

I came thru Lake Charles on Friday, October 14th. I was going to visit my Husband in Sabine Pass, TX. Him and his crew have stopped in to eat here, and he has always said it was good. boudin balls, shrimp and crawfish pistolettes....OMG....out of this world...boudin balls seasoned perfectly and the pistolettes (Louisiana rolls which are delish...stuffed with shrimp or crawfish mixture...Ohhhh..) I'm from South Texas and enjoy Cajun food when I can get it. We went to Steamboat Bill's on MLK Hwy. This is place is 'slap your mama good!' We had the fried catfish and shrimp and the batter was nice and flaky, the best I've ever tasted. The red beans and rice were very tasty. Those
Louisiana rolls are awesome, kinda like a croissant. The smothered okra with shrimp and sausage over rice was fabulous as the spices were like music to my mouth. All I can say is this place didn't look all that from the outside but OMG, the food and the staff were superb!! I will definitely be back when I come to Lake Charles. My only recommendation would be to sell Abita Beer at the restaurants.

I was traveling from Tx to PA and was looking for some good grub. I didn't just hit a home run when I stopped at Steamboat Bill's. I hit a grand slam! The dinner was incredible. Loved it! Love it! Lake Charles- half way mark between San Antonio, TX and Ocean Springs, MS. My three nieces were in San Antonio for a week. On July 31st, we met their parents in Lake Charles to return them. I am so glad we met in Lake Charles; otherwise, we would not have experienced such delicious food. My friend Sara and I have left Texas several times to go eat lunch at your Lake Charles Restaurant. We absolutely love the Pistolette's ,

just wanted to say THANK YOU for a wonderful experience. From the greeter, to
the cashier, to the seater, to the wait staff, to the busboy, we were made to
