 A Road Side Peddler's DreamSteamboat Bill's Logo

The year was 1982. Kathi Kocik Bonamici, from Chicago, and her three young daughters, through an act of unexpected fate (or as fate would have it), found themselves in the coastal community of Lake Charles, Louisiana. With very little money, no friends or family in the area, and a strong "will" for survival, Kathi soon became "Kathi, the shrimp lady" - a household synonym known for her bubbling personality, honesty, hard work and a very deep love for all human beings. Her strong desire to deliver the freshest shrimp possible at a very reasonable price quickly gained her the respect of the consumer and the fisherman alike. With her brother Billy Bonamici's help, her business grew to the point where they needed a shrimp dock and buying plant to supply the demand.

Steamboat Bill's Roadside Peddler's DreamNapoleonic laws and "restrictions" plagued the growing business and eventually landed her before the Supreme Court. To the delight of all her new friends, customers, and most of her " business acquaintances" she beat it! With the help of her brother and daughters, who's leadership and direction a new phenomenon to Cajun country sprang up from the seafood market industry - Steamboat Bill's Cajun Seafood Restaurants with 2 Lake Charles, LA locations. After being voted # 1 again, we realize that our customers are the ones who made us # 1.

THANK YOU... for your continued support throughout the years. Most of Lake Charles saw us when we started peddling shrimp on the side of the road, and our move to shrimp boats and a shrimp dock in Hackberry and our tiny little place on Highway 14 that burned down. But from that tragedy is what turned into two restaurants now in Lake Charles.

We would like to thank God for this blessing & thank all of our customers that have turned into our extended family after supporting us for 20 years.

Thank you sincerely,

     The Steamboat Bills Family
